MERREM I.V. has a well-established Safety Profile

MERREM I.V. is well tolerated at highest recommended dose

  • Safety profile proven from 500 mg q8h to 2 g q8h 1

Safety profile similar to the cephalosporins cefotaxime and ceftriaxone

In clinical trials evaluating pediatric patients with meningitis, adverse events were comparable between meropenem- and cephalosporin-treated groups in both type and frequency. 1

Low incidence of seizures

  • During clinical investigations, 2904 immunocompetent adult patients were treated for non-CNS infections, with the overall seizure rate being 0.7%. All meropenem-treated patients with seizures had preexisting contributing factors, including a history of seizures or CNS abnormality and concomitant medications with seizure potential 1
  • In the meningitis studies of pediatric patients ≥3 months of age, rates of seizure activity during therapy were comparable between patients with no CNS abnormalities who received meropenem and those who received comparator agents. The meropenem group did have a statistically higher number of patients with transient elevation of liver enzymes 1
